COMING MID-JANUARY 2009...A LITTER OF SOLID BLACK PUPS...TOP WORKING CZECH/EAST GERMAN BLOODLINES

Welcome,

If you’re looking for a well socialised, top quality healthy puppy then you’ve found the right place.

These days buying a German Shepherd involves more than just visiting a responsible breeder and buying a dog with AKC papers. You have to decide what kind of dog you want, the type of temperament that’s best for you, mindful of what the dog will look like when it’s fully grown. These days many puppy ads claim German bloodlines, which is pretty meaningless unless the full pedigree is freely available as it is for our dogs. Buying a "cheaper" dog is not necessarily a wise move. Health problems, ears taking several months to come up, poor temperament, possible hip problems in later life can all affect a pups health and development. A quality pedigree and conscientious reputable breeders whose dogs have excellent genetics is your best protection against buying a flawed puppy. Like pretty much everything in life you get what you pay for.

Our dogs are 100% German bloodline show dogs – in the standard 65-75 lbs range for females and 75-85 lbs for males. Clicking on the red links under the photos of all our dogs will also show a four generation pedigree. They all have excellent pedigrees from mainly or directly imported German dogs with both VA (for show) and SchH3 (for obedience) titles in their immediate background.

German Shepherds have long had a definitive look to them, traditionally with a black saddle. Our dogs’ colours are black and tan and black and red with black saddles. We also have a solid black male from East German and Czech working lines but his female all black Czech mate is still too young for breeding. All our adult dogs have the stock coat—which is the ‘standard’ shorter coat.

Its worth repeating that the best way to get a healthy, even tempered puppy is to buy from a responsible breeder who has dogs that are completely unrelated, thus avoiding any risk of the dreaded in breeding and from a breeder whose dogs, like ours, come from reputable breeders with AKC or other similar (foreign) papers that can be traced back to quality parents on both sides of the pedigree. All of our dogs of breeding age have been OFA'd for their hips and elbows and the OFA number obviously appears on the AKC papers for all the pups from that litter.

The other crucial thing is to make sure the breeder has handled the pups from a very early age and the pups have been well socialized within the household, fed a quality dog food, been seen by a vet and been wormed and given the usual shots. This is all something we do as standard. After weaning we now only feed our pups Canidae dog food which has NO fillers or corn etc. Canidae All Life Stages is the food we now use. See Solid Gold for a local list of breeders by zip code.

We are a hobby breeder and never breed the same dog twice in a year. The mother has her pups in our air conditioned/heated house and there they remain until its time for them to go their new homes.

German Shepherds bond very quickly and very strongly with their new families. Usually the more you socialize a dog the more affable it will usually be with people, other dogs and pets. But even if this is not possible a shepherd will normally still be as sweet with family members as it was when it was a puppy. Shepherds usually develop a strong protective instinct for their families and their property, and are not usually quite as friendly with complete strangers as say the average Cocker Spaniel or a Golden Retriever.

We will be very pleased to discuss any of your requirements with you and of course we will happily take a non refundable $200 deposit if you wish to reserve a pup before they are ready to go to their new homes. Pups are normally ready to leave at 7 – 8 weeks old. 6 weeks we feel is just a bit too young.

Deposits, if the need arises, can be transferred to a future litter. Clearly the non-refundable nature of the deposit is in case someone decides not to buy a pup and we lose out on the sale of a pup. This is standard practice when reserving pups.
